As part of the 41st edition of the Cinema Jove festival (18-27 June 2026), organised by the Institut Valencià de Cultura, the Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània hosts 'The Young Greta Gerwig', a free open-air retrospective dedicated to the American filmmaker who has redefined the role of women in Hollywood. The programme traces her career from the most radical independent cinema to major studio productions, with six key titles: 'Hannah Takes the Stairs' (Joe Swanberg, 2007), 'Nights and Weekends' (Greta Gerwig and Joe Swanberg, 2008), 'Frances Ha' (Noah Baumbach, 2012), 'Lady Bird' (2017), 'Little Women' (2019) and 'Barbie' (2023), the film that made Gerwig the first woman to direct a movie surpassing one billion dollars. The cycle is rounded off with a seventh, surprise closing screening chosen by the audience through a social-media vote. Screenings take place outdoors in the Claustre Gòtic (Gothic cloister) of the Centre del Carme with free admission. The full programme and screening times can be found on the festival's official website, cinemajove.com.
