🔒 Secret spots
Hidden gemThe other pool — the one nobody findsJust outside an inland village where everyone crowds into the same postcard-famous swimming hole, there's another pool almost nobody finds: a narrow, deep canyon where the water turns dark and cold, and you can swim upstream to small hidden waterfalls tucked between the rock walls — usually with no one else around. No signs, no queue, no beach umbrellas, just stone, silence and cold water. The people who know about it like to keep it that way.
Hidden gemOchre archers and dancers, all to yourselfWhile everyone else queues for the village's most-photographed sight, a handful of hikers peel off up an almost-forgotten ravine to a rock shelter where hunters, dancers and archers have stood painted in ochre for thousands of years. No one points the way — you earn the climb with real boots, real water and a steep final scramble before it reveals itself, almost always with no one else there.
ViewpointThe cave of the forbidden cultHigh on a ridge outside Valencia, a cave mouth opens onto what was once a secret place of worship — so charged that religious authorities once tried to erase it for good. Today only a handful of hikers know the stone path that climbs up to it: a vertigo-inducing balcony over an entire valley, with no signage, no guided tours, and no tourists in sight. Save it for late afternoon when the light spills across the valley, and you'll understand why locals don't hand this one out easily.
