Rawayana Concert in València

Roig Arena is the city's big indoor venue, in the Quatre Carreres district south-east of the old town and a short walk from the Ciutat de les Arts complex. It is enclosed and air-conditioned, which matters in early September: València is still properly warm at nine in the evening, and the arena is the cool part of the night.

What the show is

Rawayana are a Venezuelan band, here to present their new album. The announced set runs to 23 songs, mixing reggae, funk, soul and Caribbean rhythms, and the staging borrows from the kinetic art of Carlos Cruz-Diez and Jesús Soto, two major Venezuelan artists. Getting to Roig Arena without a car

Spanish arena shows start late by northern-European standards, and so does dinner: most people eat at 21:00 or later. Take the metro or a city bus towards the Ciutat de les Arts and walk the last ten minutes; the streets are wide and lit, and you skip the post-show traffic. Around the venue

The blocks right by the Roig Arena are residential and office buildings, not bars. Eat in the centre or in Ruzafa beforehand, both an easy walk or a short metro ride away.
