Exhibition on Frida Kahlo in Valencia
Discover the most intimate and never-before-seen side of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo at the Ateneo Mercantil in Valencia. The photographic exhibition includes unpublished images and authentic letters, plus an interactive Live Art Room for a sensory experience. The show is open from June 9 to September 27, 2026.
The exhibition runs until 27 September 2026 at the Ateneo Mercantil, the building on one side of Plaza del Ayuntamiento (number 18), València's main square. It is a photographic show: previously unpublished images, authentic letters and an interactive Live Art Room. General admission starts at €20. Opening hours, last admission and whether to book ahead are on the official page.
An indoor plan in the middle of the city
The Ateneo is a private cultural society whose halls are used for exhibitions, which is why a show like this ends up on the main square rather than in a museum district. That makes it useful in the hours when València is hard work outdoors: mid-afternoon in September is still hot, and this is air-conditioned and central. The same applies if the weather breaks — the rainy-day guide lists more indoor options, and the museums guide covers permanent collections, opening hours and free-entry days.
Getting there and what is next door
You do not need a car or even a bus ticket if you are staying centrally. The square is the city's transport hub — metro, most city bus lines, and the Estació del Nord railway station a hundred metres away. The building's own rooftop terrace, the Àtic del Ateneo, looks down over the square. Five minutes on foot are the Mercat Central, the Silk Exchange and the small circular Plaza Redonda. One scheduling note for visitors: Spanish food markets shut in the early afternoon and do not reopen, so do the market first and the exhibition afterwards.
