Exhibition and activities "The Worlds of Alice"
Discover how Alice's journey to Wonderland transformed art, film, and fashion with these activities. The exhibition analyzes how this Victorian character became an icon, influencing brilliant minds like Salvador Dalí, Walt Disney, or Vivienne Westwood. In addition to visiting the show, you can also enjoy activities for both children and adults.
CaixaForum València sits inside the Àgora, the Calatrava building that stood empty for years at the far end of the City of Arts and Sciences before being converted into a cultural centre. The entrance is on Carrer Eduardo Primo Yúfera, and the inside looks nothing like the shell promises: ordinary exhibition rooms, enclosed and air-conditioned. The Alice exhibition costs €4 and runs until 11 October.
Why an exhibition about Alice
Lewis Carroll's character stopped being a children's book a long time ago. The exhibition traces what she left behind in art, film and fashion, naming Salvador Dalí, Walt Disney and Vivienne Westwood among those who reworked her for their own ends. Alongside the show there are scheduled activities for both children and adults; which ones and at what time is published on the official page, since they change through the season and some need booking.
The bad-weather and the too-hot plan
Four euros for enclosed, cooled rooms makes this the obvious fallback for an afternoon too hot to spend outdoors, and for a September rainstorm — Valencia does get them, and they are heavy. We have a whole guide to what to do in Valencia when it rains, and the options with children are in Valencia with kids.
Getting there and what is next door
The metro stop is Ciutat Arts i Ciències – Justícia on line 10. From the centre you can also walk or cycle along the floor of the old Turia riverbed, which runs right past the door and is flat the whole way. Immediately around you are the Hemisfèric, the Museu de les Ciències and the Umbracle. Ten minutes upriver along the same park is the Gulliver playground, which is free and is where children actually wear themselves out.
