IBERLLÍRIA · Visits to Cerro de San Miguel
More plans that weekend
Travel back in time and discover the roots of Edetan Llíria with the IberLlíria experience, a guided visit to one of the most important Iberian archaeological sites in the area: the Tossal de San Miquel. During the tour you will learn what life was like in ancient Edeta, one of the main cities of Iberian culture.
The Tossal de Sant Miquel, also known as Cerro de San Miguel, is home to one of the most significant Iberian archaeological sites in the Valencia region: the remains of Edeta, the ancient city that gave rise to present-day Llíria. Throughout much of 2026, guided visits are organised to walk through its excavated streets and dwellings and understand how life was lived there more than two thousand years ago.
The route, named IberLlíria, departs from the Monasterio de San Miquel and leads visitors up the hillside while explaining the importance of Edeta as one of the great cities of Iberian culture. Beyond its historical value, the site offers privileged views over Llíria and the surrounding landscape.
Visits cost 5 € and are scheduled across several dates throughout the year, between July and November, so it is worth checking in advance which days each session is scheduled before heading up to the hillside.
Getting there and what else to see
The archaeological site is located on Cerro de San Miguel, on the outskirts of Llíria, a municipality whose historical heritage extends far beyond the Iberian world. If you fancy staying overnight or devoting a full day to the area, you can consult the guide to Serra, a nearby village in the heart of Sierra Calderona with castles, watchtowers and viewpoints that complement a trip well into the interior of Valencia.
Highlights of the area include the Castillo de Serra, of Muslim origin with its tower and crenellated walls still standing, or the Torre del Senyor de la Vila, a ninth-century Islamic defensive tower built in tapial in the heart of the old town. Those who prefer landscape and nature before or after the archaeological visit also have the Parque Natural del Turia, the great green corridor that runs alongside the river upstream from the city of Valencia.
