Palau de les Arts Open House Day

An open house is the chance to walk into a building most people only ever enter with a ticket to a performance. The listing puts it on Sunday 13 September 2026, with live music and workshops, running from late morning into the afternoon, and shows amounts of 3 € and 5 €. Where the Palau de les Arts is

It stands at the northern end of the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, inside the old bed of the river Turia — the river was diverted after a catastrophic flood in 1957 and the empty channel through the city is now a long park. The Palau is the tallest of the Calatrava buildings there, and serves as the region's opera house.

Without a car it is straightforward: metro line 10 stops at the complex, and several EMT bus lines run along the riverbed. Walking from the centre takes a while but is flat and pleasant, following the gardens the whole way; from the north end you pass the Jardines de Viveros. The Science Museum, the Hemisfèric, the Umbracle and the Oceanogràfic are all within walking distance of each other here. With children, the obvious plan is the open house first and one of the others afterwards; see what to do with kids.

Practical notes

• There is almost no shade in the riverbed and the white concrete throws the light back at you. Hat, sunglasses and water, even in September.
• Wear comfortable shoes — the complex is much bigger to cross than it looks from outside.
• Sunday is the quietest day for city traffic but also the day many shops close, so plan lunch accordingly.
