The Woman in Julio González's Work

The IVAM is scheduled to open the exhibition «La dona en l'obra de Julio González» on 28 February 2027. The venue is at Guillem de Castro, 118, next to the Torres de Quart, in the barrio del Carmen. The show focuses on the women who shaped the life and work of sculptor Julio González, whose legacy is one of the museum's key holdings: the main venue is officially named IVAM Centre Julio González and maintains a permanent gallery dedicated to his work.

Julio González, born in València in 1876, was a pioneer of forged and welded iron sculpture, a technique he passed on to his friend Pablo Picasso and one that would transform twentieth-century sculpture. The IVAM, inaugurated in 1989 as Spain's first major museum of modern art promoted by an autonomous community, has safeguarded much of his legacy since its foundation.
