Cascada del río Carbo
Carbo river waterfall above clear pools, at the end of an 11.6 km riverside walk on the GR-7 from Masía Roncales. Cold water all year.
The Carbo river waterfall drops into a pool at the end of a boxed-in stretch of the Carbo, in Villahermosa del Río municipality, in the Alto Mijares. It is a short mountain river rising in the Penyagolosa massif and joining the Villahermosa, and the GR-7 follows it almost entirely.
The trail
The classic path climbs the river from Villahermosa on the GR-7, with red and white waymarks, passing Masía de Roncales, Molino de Abajo and the Mases del Carbo to the waterfall. The regional stage sheet describes the riverside layout with river crossings and arrival in the village. At the foot of Penyagolosa, the outing combines with the Penyagolosa natural park, crowning the same massif where the river rises.
The waterfall and the swim
The fall forms a pool of cold water where walkers take a quick dip in the warm months. The out-and-back walk from Masía Roncales totals about 11.6 km with 326 m of ascent, of moderate difficulty and about 4 and three-quarter hours of walking. The water runs cold even in summer, so the swim is short by nature.
Tips for your visit
- Wear grippy shoes you can get wet: there are river crossings.
- Start early in summer to walk the riverside without heat.
- Respect the flow: if the river runs high, do not cross off path.
- You can only get there by car, as far as Villahermosa or the Roncales track.
