Castillo de Castalla
Heritage ensemble on the hill: a fortress with walls and towers above the old town and views over the Foia de Castalla.
The hill overlooking Castalla holds its castle, a heritage ensemble of walls and towers that grew over Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iberian, Roman and Arab remains. The town gathered at its foot, on slopes at 675 metres of altitude.
History
The Muslims raised the first fortification on the hill, the district's administrative head. Jaume I took the castle in 1244 and brought it into the Kingdom of Valencia. In 1729 it passed to the marquises of Dos Aguas and in 1988 to the municipality.
