Above the old town of Elda rises its castle, a medieval fortress from the 12th and 13th centuries. Inside survive the remains of the Renaissance palace of the counts of Coloma.
History
The Islamic castle passed to Christian hands and the Colomas turned it into a Renaissance palace. After centuries of neglect, a master plan launched in 1983 has guided its phased restoration.
What to see
The fortress walls, the remains of the Coloma palace and the views over the Elda-Petrer conurbation, today an urban continuum of almost 90,000 residents.

- Walk down afterwards to the Santa Ana church, in the old town at the foot of the castle.
