Benagéber

A large reservoir on the Turia built in the 1940s and opened in 1952, which forced the old village, now under the water, to be moved and a new settlement to be built. It is the axis of the municipal landscape and a starting point for trails, including the GR7 and routes towards the Valdeserrillas reserve.

The Embalse de Benagéber is a large dam on the Turia built in the 1940s and opened in 1952. Its construction forced the population to move to a new site, and the old village was left under the water. The municipality is part of the Alto Turia biosphere reserve, declared by Unesco in June 2019. The reservoir is today the axis of the municipal landscape and shapes the territory, the routes and the views of the municipality. The dam, the relocated village and the biosphere reserve together define the identity of the municipality today.
