Refugio Antiaéreo de la calle Serranos
—
Hidden gem FREE
Beneath an ordinary Carmen house hides a 1937 air-raid shelter built for 400 people, its thick concrete pillars and the original art-deco 'Refugio' sign still in place. Going down those steps is a quiet, queue-free way to step into the bombing nights Valencia lived through as capital of the Republic.
Open only Saturdays and Sundays at 1pm with a free guided tour (closed in August). Call ahead on 96 208 13 90 to reserve, as space is very limited.
