What to see in Llíria
Llíria, about 26 km from València, was the Iberian and Roman city of Edeta and today counts about 25,000 residents. It is a City of Music: the Banda Primitiva (1819) and the Unión Musical rank among the oldest civilian wind bands in Spain, with a conservatory.
The MALL archaeology museum explains Edeta before going out to the Mura Roman baths, a musealised sanctuary and baths, the largest complex of Roman Llíria. The 13th-century Sangre church, over the former mosque, mixes Romanesque, Gothic and Mudéjar work. Above the town, the Royal Monastery of San Miguel, founded in 1326, faces the plain.
The MALL museum opens the day and the Mura baths follow on their visiting hours. The Sangre church is seen on the old-quarter walk, and the bands play at festivities and concerts.
