What to see in Montanejos
Montanejos, about 68 km from Valencia in the Alto Mijares, is a spa village of 649 residents in the Mijares valley. Its natural draw is the Fuente de los Baños, on the river, and the village is walked between the old centre, the bridge and the castle remains.
Alquería Castle, nearly gone, leaves wall traces and a BIC tower in the town centre. The parish church honours Saint James and the Desamparados hermitage keeps local devotion. The San José bridge, of local relevance, crosses the river by the river walk. The spa village lives from water: the spa and the Fuente de los Baños centre the visit, with the river as promenade. The small, quiet old centre is walked on foot among the Santiago church, the Desamparados hermitage and the BIC tower. The San José bridge joins the banks by the Mijares river walk. It is a bathing and walking destination in every season.
