Ruta de La Pea — Les Hoces del Túria
A short circular walk through the La Pea gorge, where the Túria squeezes between the cliffs of Peña Latrón to carve the dramatic Hoces canyon. Easy and family-friendly, with clifftop viewpoints, a waterfall by the old hydro plant and river pools made for a summer dip.
A 3.5 km circular walk through the La Pea area in Vilamarxant, where the Túria squeezes between the cliffs of Peña Latrón and opens up the Hoces gorge. It's easy, takes about an hour and a half, and only climbs around 120 m, so it works with kids and with little fitness.
The route
The path is a loop that hugs the river for much of the way, switching between shaded stretches under pines and open balconies over the gorge. The 120 m of climbing comes in short bursts, nothing taxing. Download the track to your phone, since there are junctions where it's easy to second-guess; it's well marked on Wikiloc.
What to see
What draws the eye are the viewpoints over the Hoces, with the river boxed in far below. Next to the old hydroelectric station there's a waterfall, and downstream the river forms pools where people swim in summer. If you're after a water day, it fits our pick of natural pools near València.
Tips
- Closed shoes with grip; there's loose rock near the viewpoints.
- Bring water: there are no reliable fountains on the route.
- Best in spring or autumn; in summer, go early to beat the heat.
It's an ideal route for a day trip from València, and being free it slots straight into the free plans.
