La Cova Tallada is a half-submerged sea cave in the cliffs of Cap de Sant Antoni, between Dénia and Xàbia. You reach it by a coastal trail of about 4 km out and back, moderate difficulty, 2–3 hours of walking and roughly 200 m of climbing. Part of the cave was cut by hand by the stonemasons who quarried the soft tosca rock here; the straight marks of their tools are still visible on the walls.

The route

You set off from Les Rotes, a villa area about 6 km south of Dénia, and drop down the cliff to sea level. The first stretch is easy, the Mediterranean open ahead of you. The last part changes: loose stone and boulders that get slippery when wet. Take it slowly and use your hands on a couple of steps. This is not a beach or a cove; the access is demanding.

What you'll see

The big chamber has a half-flooded floor of turquoise, very clear water. In summer a swim inside the cave is the best part of the day. A snorkel mask helps. Deeper in there are galleries with no natural light; you need a torch and real care on the uneven ground to go there.
