Salto de la Novia
An easy, very photogenic walk along the Palancia river leading to the Salto de la Novia, a spectacular waterfall of around 60 metres framed by lush greenery. The circular trail, known as the Route of the Fountains, links shaded springs and picnic areas, perfect for families and for cooling off in summer.
The Salto de la Novia is a roughly 60-metre waterfall on the Palancia river at Navajas (Alt Palància, Castellón), reached by an easy 6 km circular route of about 2 hours. It is part of the well-known Ruta de las Fuentes, a path that strings together springs and shaded spots along the riverbed.
The route
The loop is circular and mostly flat: 150 metres of climbing spread over the whole walk, with nothing steep. You follow the Palancia between poplar groves and pools, and the surface switches between track, footpath and a few flights of steps by the springs. There are signs and the track is on Wikiloc, so it's hard to get lost.
What to see
The waterfall is the star, best from March to June when the river runs full. Along the way you pass the Fuente de los Cloticos and several pools where people cool off in summer. It's one of the easier walking routes to do with kids, much like the other hiking routes near València.
Tips
- Closed shoes with grip; the rocks by the water are slippery.
- Bring water even though there are springs: not all are drinkable.
- Skip midday in July and August, when it's crowded and short on shade.
