Circuit Viu: Jorge 99
Jorge 99 is a young Valencian musician who leads this blues and country music project, drawing inspiration from artists like Charlie Patton, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Muddy Waters, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and others.
Eight euros, a small room, and blues and country played by a young Valencian who grew up on Charlie Patton, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Muddy Waters, Hank Williams and Johnny Cash. In Spain a «club» like this means a bar with a stage, not a nightclub: you will be standing a couple of metres from the musician.
Where Peter Rock Club is
Carrer de Quart 26, on the western edge of Ciutat Vella, between the Carme and Velluters quarters. The street ends at the Torres de Quart, the medieval gate towers that still carry cannonball scars from the French siege of 1808. It is walkable from anywhere in the old town, and the Túria and Àngel Guimerà metro stops are both close.
Timing, and eating first
Our listing does not give a door time, and it is worth checking the official page: small Valencian venues often open well before the music starts, and gigs here begin later than most visitors expect. Eat first. Kitchens in the centre serve late, the neighbourhood is full of tapas bars, and the Mercat Central is five minutes away, though it shuts in the early afternoon and stays closed on Sundays. See where to eat tapas.
Afterwards
You come out on the doorstep of the Barrio del Carmen, which is where a València night ends by simple geography. For other plans the same weekend, see what to do this weekend.
