Cartuja de Vall de Crist
A Carthusian monastery founded in 1385 by the infante Martín, later Martín el Humano, with a bull of 1383. Active for six centuries, it was one of the most important religious centres of the Kingdom of Valencia. After the confiscation it fell into ruins; the church of San Martín and the iglesia Mayor survive.
The Cartuja de Vall de Crist was founded in 1385 by the infante Martín de Aragón, later known as Martín el Humano, under a papal bull of 1383. The monastery remained active for six centuries and was one of the most important ecclesiastical centres of the Valencian Community. The church of San Martín was begun in 1386, while the main cloister and the iglesia Mayor were completed in 1428. After the confiscation of church property the complex fell into ruins. Today the church of San Martín and the iglesia Mayor survive, two witnesses to the scale the monastic complex once reached.
