In short: The best viewpoints near Valencia are Mirador del Garbí in the Sierra Calderona, the Turia gorge balconies at Chulilla, and the cape lighthouses at Cullera and Xàbia. We have gathered 24, nearly all free to visit. The mountain ones (Garbí, Rebalsadors, Montdúver) need a clear morning. Villages like Guadalest, Peníscola and Morella look best in mid-afternoon, and the Albufera, from El Palmar or the Gola del Pujol, is a sunset plan: arrive 45 minutes early.

The best viewpoints near Valencia spread across the mountains, the huerta, l'Albufera and the coast: El Garbí in the Calderona range, the cliff balconies of the Turia gorge at Chulilla, and the cape lighthouses at places like Cullera and Cap de Sant Antoni. We have gathered twenty-four, all logged in our places section; nearly all of them are free to reach.

The best viewpoints near Valencia, one by one

Mirador del Garbí

It sits above 600 metres, inside the Calderona Natural Park. On clear days you can see the Gulf of València, the Albufera and, if you're lucky, the Columbretes islands on the horizon. You can drive almost to the top; the last stretch has to be walked.

Turia gorge viewpoints (Chulilla)

Chulilla is dotted with balconies cut into the rock. La Peñeta and Las Cuevas look straight down into the Turia gorge and its vertical walls. Walk the pantaneros path and the Mirador de la Carrucha turns up right above the Charco Azul, with the river boxed in below.

Mirador dels Rebalsadors

From the summit of the Rebalsadors peak, in the Serra district, the view runs a full 360 degrees. An old snow well (pou de la neu), where ice was stored for summer, still stands at the top.

Cullera lighthouse and Cabo viewpoint

The Cullera lighthouse is circular, built in 1858, and stands on the headland, ringed by coves and pine. The lookout opens onto the whole Mediterranean front, with the beach and the town below.

Cap de Sant Antoni (Xàbia)

The cliffs rise to 160 metres and are topped by an 1855 lighthouse, with the Montgó behind you and the marine reserve below. A few kilometres on, the Cap de la Nau is the easternmost point of the region, the closest to Ibiza, its octagonal 1928 lighthouse standing about 120 metres above the sea. You can see both in one day: Cap de Sant Antoni.

The Albufera at sunset

For the classic sunset there is the El Palmar jetty, where the lateen-sail boats cast off. Close by, the Mirador de la Gola del Pujol has a tower looking over the lake, and one of the best sundowns in the park.

Muntanyeta del Cabeçol (El Puig)

This is a low, quiet hillock northeast of El Puig, on the way to Puçol, with an easy climb and open views of the huerta, the coast and the Mediterranean. A nearby lookout, reachable without a car. Listing: Muntanyeta del Cabeçol.

How to choose by the day

With a car and half a day ahead of you, the mountain viewpoints (Garbí, Rebalsadors, Montdúver) want a clear morning. For village photos, Guadalest, Peníscola and Morella look best in mid-afternoon. The Albufera is a sunset plan: aim to arrive 45 minutes before sundown. The cape lighthouses (Cullera, Xàbia) work at any hour, though the midday wind tends to clear the haze.
