The castle of la Carbonera is a Muslim fortress conquered by the Cid Campeador. It forms part of the Camino del Cid, the route that runs through the settings linked to the hero's figure, and it belongs to the medieval heritage of the Vall d'Albaida. On the crest of Benicadell an old nevera survives, an element related to the storage of snow. The site therefore allows both the defence of the territory and the use of mountain resources in the same area to be read, two aspects that complement each other in the reading of the landscape.
