It was declared a National Historical-Artistic Monument in 1918 and, since 2003, it has been municipally owned as a cultural center. Construction from the 16th century promoted by the lords of Alaquàs; declared a historical-artistic monument on April 21, 1918 and Asset of Cultural Interest (RI-51-0000153). It passed into the hands of the Alaquàs City Council in 2003 and was opened to the public on February 28, 2003. The comprehensive rehabilitation (2005-2007) recovered coffered ceilings, tiles and graffiti from the 17th-18th centuries. Today it functions as a cultural center with exhibition halls and the Valencian headquarters of the Ernest Lluch Foundation. Official website of the castle: castell.alaquas.org.
