Cova del Bolomor
The Palaeolithic site of the Bolomor ravine is one of the most important in the western Mediterranean. The cave preserves a deposit spanning more than 300,000 years of human occupation, with hearths, stone tools and hominin fossils that document the early use of fire.
The Cova del Bolomor preserves a record of more than 300,000 years and is key to understanding human evolution in the European Middle Pleistocene. Excavations have documented combustion structures, lithic industry and hominin fossils, three kinds of evidence that are studied together to reconstruct the human presence in the cave. The site allows researchers to examine a very long period of occupation and the activities that took place inside it. Visits are guided and require prior booking, so it is worth planning the trip in advance and confirming availability before travelling.
