El Fornet y murallas
Historic quarter on the hill below the church, with surviving old wall sections and stepped lanes with sea viewpoints.
Below the Consuelo church in Altea, El Fornet is the historic quarter on the hill. It keeps stretches of the old walls and stepped lanes that open onto sea viewpoints.
History
El Fornet grew inside the walled enclosure under the parish church. The surviving wall sections show the rebuilding of the town defences.
What to see
Walk the lanes slowly, stopping at the wall remains and the small squares, where the whitewashed houses frame views of the church domes above and the sea below. The route links the church at the top with the Bellaguarda tower area and the seafront below.
Tips for your visit
- The lanes are stepped and steep in places.
- Combine the walk with the Museo del Mar by the port.
