Ermita del Santísimo Cristo de la Salud

Crowning the hill east of Navarrés, the Hermitage of the Most Holy Christ of Health is one of those spots where the climb is worth it. You reach it by following the bends of the Calvario, a traditional path that opens, at the top, onto wide views over the village and the Canal valley.

History and devotion

The hermitage dates from the 18th century and holds the image of the Christ of Health, the town's patron. Like other calvary sanctuaries in the region, its hilltop setting reflects both religious tradition and the wish to command the surrounding landscape. The chapel's bond with the village stays alive through the patronal celebrations.

The building has a simple plan, a single nave, with attached pilasters that mark the rhythm of the walls and a barrel vault covering the space, a layout common in Valencian religious architecture of the period. The plainness of the whole contrasts with the image of Christ at the heart of the devotion.
