More than 20,000 salt and pepper shakers gathered under one roof. The Museo de Saleros y Pimenteros in Guadalest is exactly what the name says, and far bigger than you would picture.

An uncommon collection

The pieces come from all over the world and span from 1800 to today: glass, ceramic, plastic, serious shapes and absurd ones. It is one of only two museums on this subject anywhere on earth — the other is in Tennessee, in the United States — and one of the very few of its kind in Europe.

Who built it

It was the work of collector Andrea Ludden and opened in Guadalest in 2010. There is a small fee, but the ticket is affordable and the visit, short and quirky, works well with children; it fits the guide to what to do with kids.
