The Museu de la Valltorta was created in 1994 by the Valencian Government with the aim of conserving, studying and disseminating Valencian rock art. The building is the work of the architects Miguel del Rey Aynat and Íñigo Magro de Orbe and stands in the Pla de l'Om area, 500 metres from the Valltorta ravine. Its location places it near the group of painted shelters that give meaning to the collection and to the centre's research work. The museum thus works as a gateway to the rock art of the area and as a documentation space for the prehistoric paintings of inland Castellón.
