Bous a la Mar (Bulls to the Sea)
The Bous a la Mar are the most iconic event of Dénia's Festa Major in honour of the Santíssima Sang, recognised as a Festival of National Tourist Interest. In a semicircular bullring set up beside the fish market in the port area, the young cows and the runners end up leaping into the Mediterranean Sea to dodge one another, a unique spectacle that draws thousands of people each afternoon. The session is held daily during the festivities, with the bull entry parading along Marqués de Campo street and the harbour esplanade before the show. In 2026 the Festa Major runs from 3 to 12 July with more than 60 events organised by the Ajuntament de Dénia, combining the religious acts in honour of the Santíssima Sang with float parades, a correfoc, free concerts and a fireworks night. Most of the programme is free and open to the public. Admission to the Bous a la Mar is free, though capacity in the harbour arena is limited.
