The Festa Major de la Santíssima Sang i Bous a la Mar is Dénia's main patron-saint festival, organised by the town council (Ajuntament), and runs from 3 to 12 July 2026 in honour of the Santíssima Sang, commemorating the 1633 miracle that, according to tradition, spared the town from an epidemic. Its most famous event is the Bous a la Mar ("bulls to the sea"), declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest in 1993: in a wooden arena built out over the fishing pier in the port, next to the fish market, bulls and runners end up leaping into the sea, with the bulls rescued by boats and ramps. Each day there is a bull-run from Carrer Marqués de Campo down to the port arena, followed by the bous a la mar in an evening session (around 7:30 pm). The 2026 programme features more than sixty activities, including free concerts, float parades, a correfoc and a multimedia pyromusical show, plus performances by artists such as Fangoria and Nebulossa. The religious heart of the festival falls on Wednesday 8 July, with a solemn mass, the handing out of the traditional pa beneït (blessed bread) and a procession through the old town.
