Orihuela commemorates the Christian conquest of the city with sumptuous parades, embassies, historical re-enactments and the famous festival of El Oriol. Declared of National Tourist Interest, the celebrations centre on 17 July, the Day of the Glorious Ensign of the Oriol. The old town's streets fill with Moorish and Christian troupes.
