More plans that weekend
Recreation of the reign of James I at Parc Central is a living-history camp that revives the final years of the reign of James I and the Crown of Aragon. It takes place on 3 and 4 October 2026 at Parc Central, with free visits, talks, workshops and demonstrations of weapons, armour and horse riding. Visitors can walk through a 13th-century medieval camp and learn about the lives of nobles, soldiers and military orders of the era.
The Parc Central transforms for one weekend from a contemporary urban park into a 13th-century medieval encampment. On October 3 and 4, 2026, «Un campamento de historia viva» sets up here, a recreation focused on the final years of Jaume I's reign and the Crown of Aragón, organised to mark the 750th anniversary of his death.
The event goes far beyond simply wandering the camp: over the two days, talks and historical reenactments with actors are held across different themed pavilions, from the Chancellery of the House of Luna to the Order of the Temple pavilion, taking in the tilt yard and archery zone. They cover royal charters and legislation, women's role at court, how the conquest of València was financed, weapons and armour, crossbowmen, spirituality in times of war, and how a Templar knight was dressed and armed.
What to see Saturday and Sunday
Saturday the camp opens in two sessions, from 10:30 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00, with talks scheduled roughly every half hour from 11:00 to 19:00. Highlights include a recreation of foot combat with foot soldiers and mercenaries at midday, and a field mass in the afternoon. Sunday the hours are compressed into a single slot, from 10:00 to 14:00, with new talks on weapons and armour, the Order of the Temple and the ritual of dubbing a knight, among others.
If you want to round off your visit with tapas or a drink, the Ruzafa neighbourhood is close by: places like Copenhagen, a long-established vegetarian kitchen in the area, or Bar Vermúdez, with its extensive vermut menu, are within walking distance of the park.
