Moros y Cristianos de Alzira
Alzira’s Moros y Cristianos: Gran Entrà, festive groups and annual roles on the first weekend of October. Watching the parade and the trip from València.
Moros y Cristianos de Alzira fills the centre of the Ribera Alta capital on the first weekend of October. The celebration is organised by Associació Cultural de Moros i Cristians La Vila d’Alzira, with groups on both sides, brass bands and festive roles renewed every year.
What to see
The centrepiece is the Gran Entrà, the Saturday afternoon parade through the central streets: pageantry, costumes and Moorish and Christian marches before packed pavements. Before the big weekend, the celebration opens with the presentation of roles and the opening proclamation, accompanied by a Setmana Cultural of festive music concerts and group events. The town council festivities page gathers the city’s annual celebrations.
When
Events cluster on the first weekend of October and the Entrada usually steps off on Saturday around 19:30. These times come from past editions: confirm the exact dates and times of the next edition in the annual programme.
Getting there
From València, the easiest option is usually the C2 commuter train to Alzira from València-Nord; check the timetables for parade day, as weekend frequencies change. The centre is walkable and the atmosphere moves to the bars after the parade. To compare similar celebrations, see Moros y Cristianos in Sagunto, the central València celebration and the Cabanyal one.
Tips
Arrive early for a front-row spot: the pavements along the route fill up. With children, pick a wide stretch where the procession passes without crowding. And if you stay for dinner, book a table.
