Castell de Cervera
Also known as the castle of the Maestranza de Montesa, it occupies the top of the hill that overlooks Cervera del Maestre. Of Arab origin, with an irregular plan and several non-concentric enclosures, it was built in the 16th century on the foundations of an Iberian hillfort.
The Castell de Cervera is also known as the castle of the Maestranza de Montesa. Its origin is Arab, and the plan of the enclosure is irregular, organised in several enclosures that are not concentric with one another. The building that survives was constructed in the 16th century on the foundations of an earlier Iberian hillfort, so two very different stages of occupation and construction technique are superimposed on the same site. The complex thus preserves the trace of the fortification of Arab origin and of the 16th-century work raised upon it, with the remains of the Iberian hillfort at its base.
