Castell de Torres Torres
A castle of Muslim origin, rebuilt during the Carlist wars, with a polygonal plan and four towers. Two towers and part of the keep survive, dominating the urban centre of Torres Torres. The building is privately owned and in a ruined state, so it can only be viewed from the outside.
The Castell de Torres Torres is of Muslim origin and was rebuilt during the Carlist wars. Its plan is polygonal and it once had four towers. Two towers and part of the keep survive today, making it possible to reconstruct the original volumes in the mind. The polygonal plan and the repetition of towers follow a defensive scheme intended to control the territory and protect the enclosure. The Carlist rebuilding introduced changes to an earlier structure, so the building brings together two distinct construction phases. Reading it today means paying attention to the volumes that remain and to those that are missing.
