Castell dels Alcalans
Ruins of the Castell dels Alcalans, an eleventh-century taifa fortress and the most important in the area. According to the chronicle of Alfonso X, the Cid captured its governor, an event that gave its name to the valley of Alcalá, later the Vall dels Alcalans. Remains survive above the Magro valley.
The fortress was built in the eleventh century, in the taifa period, and was the most important in the area. According to the chronicle of Alfonso X, the Cid captured its governor, an event that gave its name to the valley of Alcalá and later to the Vall dels Alcalans. Today only ruins remain, with traces preserved above the Magro valley. Those remains make it possible to place the fortress in the landscape and to understand its commanding position over the surroundings. The site keeps walls and structures that testify to the castle's former layout, and it still offers a clear reading of its defensive setting.
