The castle dates from 1417 and was rebuilt in the sixteenth century. In 1875 it was purchased and the two flanking towers were removed so that the town hall could be installed, which gave the building an administrative use. Tower foundations, moats and underground passages have recently been unearthed beneath the structure, and the area is open to the public. The historic complex can be visited on guided tours arranged with the town council, a way of seeing both the visible part of the building and the remains uncovered in the excavations.
