On the hill above Enguera, the Islamic-period castle is the old watchtower of the Canal de Navarrés capital. It is protected heritage and marks the high point of the town.
History
The castle began as an Islamic fortress on the hill and watched the mountain passage. After the Christian conquest it lost its role, and the town grew down the slope, leaving the upper enclosure as a ruin viewpoint.
What to see
The remains of the Islamic enclosure and the views over Enguera and the Caroche massif. Below stand the church of San Miguel (16th-17th centuries) and the archaeology museum.
