Castillo de Toga
A castle of Arab origin in the lower part of the village, beside the bed of the Mijares river. Its construction is linked to the strategic importance of the Toga gorge, an imposing canyon of the Mijares. It is in a precarious state, although some stretches of wall can still be seen.
The Castillo de Toga is of Arab origin and stands in the lower part of the village, beside the Mijares river. Its construction is linked to the strategic importance of the Toga gorge, an imposing canyon of the Mijares. It is in a fairly precarious state of conservation, although some stretches of wall survive. The position of the castle, close to the riverbed and at the point where the valley narrows, helps explain why that site was chosen. What remains of the building still allows part of its defensive layout and its relationship with the river crossing to be recognised.
