Castillo y Torre de Sot de Chera
A medieval fortress on a promontory beside the Sot river, with remains of a wall and an 11th-century watchtower. It is listed as a Site of Cultural Interest and in the Valencian archaeological inventory. Iberian and Muslim ceramics and tunnels linked to the fortification have been found in the surroundings.
The Castillo y Torre de Sot de Chera is a fortress of medieval origin, listed as a Site of Cultural Interest. Its watchtower dates from the 11th century. Remains of a wall survive, along with a network of tunnels, now sealed, used during the sieges of the 14th and 15th centuries. The position on a promontory beside the river and the presence of those underground passages help explain the defensive role of the site. The enclosure forms part of the historical heritage of the town and of its landscape. The fortress therefore combines medieval military architecture with an underground network of passages.
