Ermita de Vera

The Ermita de Vera is one of those quiet corners of the Valencian huerta that reward visitors willing to step away from the crowds. Set in the rural hamlet of Vera, deep in the market gardens of Alboraya, this small chapel dedicated to the Immaculate Conception is part of a picturesque ensemble of vernacular architecture, standing alongside an old farmhouse (alquería) and a mill that together evoke the traditional life of the huerta.

What to see

The entrance porch rests on two octagonal medieval columns, a detail that hints at the antiquity of the site. The building is crowned by a small tiled dome and a bell-gable (espadaña), features very typical of rural Valencian chapels.

Inside, a restrained neoclassical decoration survives, with a barrel vault and a wooden choir loft. It was carefully restored between 2003 and 2004, preserving its intimate, contemplative character.
