The church of Santa Águeda is built on the site that was the palace-house of the infante James I, ceded for the temple in 1385. The building has a two-tier architectural frontispiece made of black marble. Saint Agatha is the patron saint of Jérica and her feast is celebrated on 5 February. The date also recalls the conquest of the town by James I, which links the religious devotion to an episode in local history. The church therefore preserves, in its own location, the trace of the town's medieval past.
