Palacio Arzobispal
A palace in a Gothic-Renaissance style built between the 14th and 17th centuries, it served as the summer residence of the archbishops of Valencia until the Mendizábal confiscation. Only the noble part survives: its staircase stands out, with gravestones from the Roman cemetery set into the wall, and the shield of the Habsburgs carved on its door.
The Palacio Arzobispal of Villar del Arzobispo was for centuries the summer residence of the archbishops of Valencia, a role it kept until the Mendizábal confiscation. Of the whole complex only the noble part of the building survives. Set into the wall of its staircase are several gravestones from the Roman cemetery found in what is now the Plaza de la Iglesia, a detail that links the palace to the town's ancient past. The entrance door also keeps a shield carved in black stone from Alcublas bearing the arms of the House of Austria, evidence of the building's link with the Crown. Visits therefore focus on these surviving elements.
