The Santuari de la Mare de Déu de la Balma is a religious building set into the rock. Its style is Renaissance and the construction developed between the 16th and 18th centuries, so the sanctuary brings together elements from several phases. At the beginning of the 20th century the worship of Saint Mary Magdalene is documented at the site, and women came there from Aragon, from Caspe and from other towns, seeking to be cured of being possessed. That flow of female pilgrims gave the sanctuary a prominent role in the popular devotion of the region. The building retains its character as a rock sanctuary, integrated into the wall of stone that shelters it.
