The optical telegraph tower of Fuenterrobles was built in 1845 as part of the optical telegraph network between Madrid and Valencia. It has a square plan measuring 6.20 metres on each side and a height of 9 metres, arranged in three levels. Its masonry is of stone rendered with lime mortar. Its function was to transmit messages by means of visual signals to other towers on the line. The building preserves the testimony of a communication system that predates the electric telegraph, and its dimensions and materials correspond to that technical use. The tower thus forms part of the history of 19th-century communications.
