What to see in Oropesa del Mar
Oropesa del Mar, about 82 km from Valencia in the Plana Alta, joins the defensive hill village with the resort beaches. With 12,640 residents, it is walked from the castle to the port, between old town and coastal promenade.
The castle and walls form the historic core above the old town, of sloping lanes with port viewpoints. On the square, the Baroque Paciencia church houses the local patroness. To the south, the 16th-century Torre del Rey watched this stretch of coast. Orpesa la Vella, a site on private land, is seen from its fence, and San Jaime stands with the Paciencia as second church. The town joins two periods: the defensive hill old centre and the beach, port and promenade resort. The visit climbs from the sea to the castle through the sloping lanes, with stops at the church square and the viewpoints. The Torre del Rey, to the south, closes the coastal walk. The Prat, by the beaches, sets the natural note of the municipality.
