Estrella Morente Concert
Valencia's Palau de la Música hosts Estrella Morente, a singer known for her powerful and emotive jondo singing style, which is a living tradition in Spanish flamenco.
One thing first: the listing does not name the venue. What it does give is the price, 16 €, and start and end times that add up to a little over an hour of music. Open the official event page and confirm the venue, the time and whether tickets remain before you plan the evening — flamenco at this price in August tends to sell out quietly.
What a cante jondo night is like
Cante jondo is the deepest, most stripped-back branch of flamenco: voice, guitar and hand claps, nothing else. It is listened to in silence. The shouts you hear from the audience — olé, or a short word of encouragement — land at the end of a phrase, never over the top of one. This is not a concert for chatting between songs or holding a phone up. If it is your first time, the thing that usually surprises people is how much weight the silence carries between passages.
An hour of music can look short on paper. For this kind of singing it is a normal length, and enough. It makes a good alternative to the standard evening out — see other plans for couples in València.
Getting there and back
You cannot fix the transport until you know the venue, but the general València rules apply. The metro and the EMT buses cover the centre and the neighbourhoods well; the difficulty is never the journey out, it is getting home after midnight. Check the night lines and last departures in how to get around València. If you drive, on an August evening street parking near any venue with an event on is gone: where to park in València lists the car parks that usually still have space.
Eating around it
Spanish evenings run late, and that works in your favour here. Dinner at 21:00 is normal, and plenty of kitchens are still serving after 23:00, so you can eat before or after.
