Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción

The Church of the Immaculate Conception presides over the old quarter of Anna, a 16th-century parish church whose outline shapes the village skyline. The square sits at its foot, narrow streets converge on it, and the bell tower rises above the rooftops. Entry is free.

History

The church was built in the 16th century and, like many Valencian parish churches of its time, grew and changed over the centuries. Its bell tower was rebuilt after the 1748 earthquake, an event that left its mark across much of the comarca, and it has defined Anna's horizon ever since.

What to see

Inside, the main draw is the Baroque murals that cover the vaults, a decorative scheme that fills the ceilings with the exuberance typical of that style. It's worth stepping in unhurried and looking up to take in the whole thing.
