Casa Carbonell

The Casa Carbonell opened in 1925 facing the Explanada, commissioned by textile magnate Enrique Carbonell, who wanted a home to match his fortune. It was designed by Alicante architect Juan Vidal Ramos, also responsible for the building that today houses the MARQ.
What to look for on the façade
Vidal Ramos mixed historicism with Valencian Art Nouveau: curved balconies, ornamental reliefs and domes crowning the corners that can be spotted from afar. It is one of the most photographed buildings on the seafront of Alacant, especially at dusk, when the stone turns golden.
Where it stands
It faces straight onto the Explanada de España with its famous wavy mosaic paving, so the visit is inseparable from the promenade. You can't go inside, but admiring it from below is a plan in itself.
