València — El Cabanyal-Canyamelar, primera línea de mar

Right on the seafront, this late-19th-century hall once housed the oxen that dragged the bou fishing boats up onto the sand, a trade that appears in Blasco Ibáñez's novel 'Flor de Mayo'. It goes unnoticed among the modern blocks along the promenade, yet it's one of the last living traces of the fishermen's Cabanyal, now being turned into the future Museum of the Sea.

Come at sunset: the brick façade glows in the golden light, and if you cross to the sand right opposite you'll have this stretch of Malva-rosa beach almost to yourself, away from the busier section.
